Open Weekend

When you come to spend an Open Weekend with us, our number one goal is to encourage you to prioritize what you need most, so that you can head home refreshed. That might mean going for a hike that we recommend, signing up to do some rock climbing on our climbing wall, or playing volleyball with other guests. Or, it may mean sitting by the fire with a good book, taking a long nap, or engaging in deep conversation with a new friend while going for a stroll. Choose your own adventure and activities to make the most of your weekend!
Start Planning

Content

Our host will greet you upon arrival and share the schedule of optional events offered throughout the weekend. After signing up for any activities that are included in the cost of the weekend, or other activities with additional cost, you will be shown to your accommodations. Your host is available all weekend to share suggestions of outdoor locations to explore and enjoy, as well as indicating printed activities and materials to guide your time if you’re interested. Activities will vary from time to time, but may include: Our climbing wall, high ropes static course, volleyball, soccer, campfires, board games, guided hikes, and team building games/challenges.

Gathering Spaces

We encourage you to take advantage of our peaceful country setting to connect with others, whether sitting under the shade of a tree, or going for a hike on one of our trails. We also have a soccer field, volleyball court, and playground for younger kids.

Food

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in our dining hall each day and are included in the cost of the weekend. Fresh water is always provided from our mountain spring.

Lodging

El Refugio offers a variety of options for overnight accommodations. Choose to stay in one of our cabins, dorm-style rooms, or spend the night at one of our campsites.

Dorm-Style Room: Accommodates up to 12 people, all contain bunk beds and one queen bed, and are conveniently located next to our Dining Hall.

Cabins: These are ideal spaces for an individual, couple, or small family. This option provides a refrigerator, coffee and tea, and in certain cases your own kitchen or kitchenette.

Camping: Available for those looking for a more rustic experience, enjoy hiking and appreciate being a bit further away from the center of where most activities take place.

Contact our coordination team to learn more about prices, amenities, and locations to choose the space that will be best suited for your experience and needs.

Application

Our hope is that after spending a weekend choosing your own activities, resting, reflecting, and enjoying the simplicity and beauty of God’s creation, you’ll go home refreshed and feeling more connected to others and the Lord. This experience which offers a ‘choose your own activities’ model is aimed at personal enjoyment, relational connection, time spent with God, and a slow paced time to simply ‘get away.’

Customize your Experience

As always, our desire is to work with you to customize your experience to make it what you need. We love personalizing everything we offer! Consider adding some of the following components to your 'Open Weekend' experience to make it your own:

+ Request specific high ropes or low ropes challenges at an additional cost for yourself, your family, or those you came with
+ Arrive early and add additional meals or nights before other guests arrive
+ Add on a personalized therapy session with one of our trained staff members
+ Choose to do a meal over a campfire instead of in our Dining Hall and make memories roasting hot dogs and eating s’mores
