'Third Culture Kid' Family Day

Once a year we offer our open-enrollment Third Culture Kids (TCK) Family day to encourage families with kids growing up in third culture realities. Rather than focusing exclusively on the kids themselves or solely on Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCK), we value bringing the whole family together to play, learn, and reflect both individually and together. We incorporate times of teaching for the adults, family activities, and experiential education for each age group. We set aside intentional time for your family to connect, process what you’ve each been learning, and think through next steps.

Content

Our staff will greet you at registration, indicate the meeting spaces for the event, and provide a short orientation. Over the course of this event, we will offer family games, sessions with teaching for the adults, some free time, age specific programming with team building challenges, solo time, and other specially selected activities. Time spent outdoors enjoying God’s creation is always a key component of what we do, so participants can expect to have individual time as well as family time set aside to be outdoors. We also offer workshops to address specific topics and needs that TCK families face, allowing adults to choose the workshop with content that most interests them or applies to their realities.

Gathering Spaces

The Grace Center will be the primary indoor meeting space for all sessions, with hot beverages available throughout the event and a wood stove in the case of cooler weather. Our Casa Grande meeting room, in addition to other indoor spaces, may be used for workshops or breakout sessions during the event. Outdoors we have the pavilion, gazebo, chapel, or pergola available to shade yourself from the sun or take cover in the case of rain. The Upper Room in the upstairs section of our Dining Hall is also a great space to play board games or cards, have conversations, or enjoy a warm beverage.

Food

All meals are included in the cost of this event as well as planned snacks and hot beverages. The number of meals will be indicated during sign-ups for the event. We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in our Dining Hall and encourage our participants to connect with the other guests who are also looking to rest, connect with the Lord, and grow as a family.

Lodging

While this event is typically a 1-day event without the need to spend the night, arriving early or staying late is always an option and can be added to your experience. We  offer a variety of options for overnight accommodations. Choose to stay in one of our cabins, dorm-style rooms, or spend the night at one of our campsites.

Dorm-Style Room: Accommodates up to 12 people, all contain bunk beds and one queen bed, and are conveniently located next to our Dining Hall.

Cabins: These are ideal spaces for an individual, couple, or small family. This option provides a refrigerator, coffee and tea, and in certain cases your own kitchen or kitchenette.

Camping: Available for those looking for a more rustic experience, enjoy hiking and appreciate being a bit further away from the center of where most activities take place.

Contact our coordination team to learn more about prices, amenities, and locations to choose the space that will be best suited for your experience and needs. Hours of arrival and departure will be finalized with the coordination team.

Application

Our hope is to provide a safe space for Third Culture Kids and their families to play, learn, and grow so that they leave feeling encouraged and closer to one another. Our aim is that family members of all ages will have the opportunity to connect with the Lord and other TCKs/TCK families as they grow and learn alongside one another. We desire to open conversations that stimulate thought, and provide tools that will help participants to identify and take some first steps. Prioritizing time as a family is important and having the space to engage in conversations around TCK realities is a win in and of itself. We desire that you will walk away refreshed, rested, and encouraged to keep putting in the time needed to live as a healthy family.

Customize your Experience

As always, our desire is to work with you to customize your experience to make it what you need. We love personalizing everything we offer! Consider adding some of the following components to the Third Culture Kids (TCK) Family day to make it your own:

+ Arrive early and spend extra time enjoying the property as a family without any scheduled events
+ Stay overnight instead of just spending the day
+ Arrive early and start your day off with breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner
+ Add on a personalized therapy session with one of our trained staff members
+ Add a high ropes challenge just for your family to the beginning or end of the day
