Family Camp

Once a year we offer our Family Camp, bringing the whole family together to play, learn, and reflect both individually and together. Over the weekend our staff will lead times of teaching for adults, family games, experiential education for each age group, workshops, adventure activities, and time spent outdoors in God’s creation. Additionally, we set aside intentional time for your family to connect, process what you’ve each been learning, and think through next steps. Our hope is families will leave feeling encouraged, closer to one another, and will walk away with memories that will last a lifetime.

Content

With intentionality we guide you through activities, teaching, and times of reflection with the aim of helping your family grow closer to one another and to Jesus Christ.

+ We emphasize spiritual growth through sessions with our camp speaker, times of worship, prayer, and times of reflection.

+ We value community! In addition to making the space for your family to connect and grow, we encourage  creating new friendships with other families through games, food, and fire times.

+ We seek out adventure while also caring for physical safety. We challenge families through our low and high ropes activities, rock wall, and zipline. By taking on our perimeter hike, you’ll be able to experience a breathtaking sunrise from the top corner of our property.

+ We love having fun! We prepare special activities for each day and foster the kind of environment where families can put their creativity into practice and make lasting memories together.

Gathering Spaces

The main meeting space over the weekend is the Grace Center, our principal conference room. This is where we’ll gather for sessions with times of teaching and worship.

We encourage you to take advantage of our peaceful country setting to connect with the members of your family, whether sitting under the shade of a tree, or going for a hike on one of our trails. We also have a soccer field, volleyball court, and playground for the younger family members.

Food

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in our dining hall each day and are included in the cost of the weekend. Fresh water is always provided from our mountain spring. Snacks and hot beverages will be provided throughout the weekend at various points as well. We may even invite you to roast hot dogs over the fire for one of your meals and enjoy s’mores made with Ecuadorian chocolate for a sweet ending!

Lodging

El Refugio offers a variety of options for overnight accommodations. As a family, choose to stay in one of our cabins, dorm-style rooms, or spend the night at one of our campsites.

Dorm-Style Room: Accommodates up to 12 people, all contain bunk beds and one queen bed, and are conveniently located next to our Dining Hall.

Cabins: These are ideal spaces for an individual, couple, or small family. This option provides a refrigerator, coffee and tea, and in certain cases your own kitchen or kitchenette.

Camping: Available for those looking for a more rustic experience, enjoy hiking and appreciate being a bit further away from the center of where most activities take place.

Contact our coordination team to learn more about prices, amenities, and locations to choose the space that will be best suited for your experience and needs.

Application

Our goal with Family Camp is to strengthen family ties, experience Jesus' love through adventure, create unforgettable memories, make lasting friendships, and provide a safe space for the development and growth of healthy families pursuing Christ.

Customize your Experience

As always, our desire is to work with you to customize your experience and make it what you need. We love personalizing everything we offer! Consider adding some of the following components to your Family Camp experience, and make it your own:

+ Arrive early and spend all day Friday enjoying the property together without any scheduled events
+ If arriving early, start your day off with breakfast or lunch in addition to dinner
+ Add on a personalized counseling session with one of our trained staff members before or after the weekend’s activities
+ Add a high ropes challenge to stretch yourselves as a family, exploring concepts of faith and trust
+ Stay late and spend an extra night!
